Scholarships

In support of SCABB's vision for the Association to be THE resource for continuing education within our industry, SCABB supports several scholarships to provide and/or supplement funding for attendance at the SCABB Annual Meeting & AIMS.

John Moulds Scholarship

The John Moulds Scholarship is restricted to those persons currently employed or being educated in the field of immunohematology and/or reference laboratory. The scholarship includes a complimentary registration to the 2026 SCABB Annual Meeting & AIMS, along with two nights' hotel accommodation.

 

Scholarship Application Criteria

  • Applicant must be an individual member, employed by an institutional member or currently enrolled in a higher education institution with a focus on immunohematology and reference laboratory work.
  • Applicant must reside, have a residence, or by employed by a hospital or blood center in the United States.
  • Applicant must be engaged, either through employment or education, in the field of immunohematology or reference laboratory.
  • Applicant must provide the following supporting documentation
    • A written request for scholarship including explanation of need. This separate document should be one or two paragraphs stating personal/professional career path in the field of immunohematology or reference laboratory as well as desire to attend the Advanced Immunohematology and Molecular Symposium presented by South Central Association of Blood Banks.
    • A brief statement from employer or learning institution supporting applicant attendance at the Annual Meeting & AIMS.

Sol Haberman Scholarship

The Sol Haberman Scholarship Award originated in 1970 to honor Sol Haberman for his pioneer work in blood group immunology. The scholarship originated through the generosity or James T. Wheeler, M.D., who continued to fund the award for several years.

Each year, the South Central Association of Blood Banks offers the Sol Haberman Scholarship Award based on the submission of an original paper by an SBB student from an accredited school within the South Central Region. Papers submitted may include scientific, technical, educational,l or case study papers in the areas of transfusion therapy, immunohematology, immunogenetics, transplantation and anthropology, or administrative papers in the areas of cost control, regulations, quality control, and instrumentation.

The Scholarship consists of:

  • $300.00 Scholarship Check
  • Certificate
  • Full Meeting Registration to the SCABB Annual Meeting & AIMS

Foundation Economic Hardship Scholarship

The Foundation Economic Hardship Scholarship is awarded to members in good standing on an as needed basis. Individual members or those employed by an institutional member may request funds to be applied toward costs associated with attendance at the SCABB Annual Meeting.

This scholarship is funded by the South Central Association of Blood Banks Foundation. All applications will be reviewed and considered for funding based on the guidelines until the allocated funds are exhausted.

Advancing Blood Banking Professionals Scholarship

*Funded by private donor*

The Advancing Blood Banking Professionals Scholarship aims to support and invest in those new to the field through education and professional development, ensuring a bright future for blood banking.

Applicants must be new to the industry with 5 or less years of experience. Both members and non-members of SCABB are eligible.

Scholarship provides funding for the following up to $1,000.00:

  • Full meeting registration to the 2026 Annual Meeting & AIMS
  • Travel
  • Hotel

Clifford I Argall Scholarship

The Clifford I. Argall scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Clifford I. Argall, who was one of the pioneers of the Tennessee Association of Blood Banks (TABB). He was very innovative and well-published.

This scholarship awards $1000 to one student currently enrolled in certificate, undergraduate, and graduate degree programs in laboratory medicine. Applicants must not have completed their degree before the scholarship is awarded.
